Girls First/Boyz First!!

How it Works

A mentor is a positive role model, friend, companion, guide, teacher, helper… someone to dream with, a coach and a cheerleader all wrapped up in one person.

Girls and boys and their mentors join this program because it feels good to have a buddy to talk with, share things with, offer support to, and get support from in return. In other words, because it feels good and makes us happy!

Mentors enjoy spending time with their girls and boys - for some, it is the highlight of the week. Please be respectful of the commitment you are making to each other.

Both mentors and girls and boys make time in their busy lives to get together. Being a mentor requires a one-year weekly commitment.

Occasionally a mentor may choose to buy a soda or ice cream or other small treat for the mentee. Spending money is not expected or required. Girls/Boyz First!! time should be focused on simple community-based activities which are free, such as hiking, biking, free community events, crafts, basketball, softball, skating, hanging out, reading, or anything else you can think of which is free and meaningful to both of you.

School-based activities occur at the mentee's school and may include baking cookies, playing board games, creating bird boxes, shooting hoops, playing four-square, helping with homework and more.
