Central Vermont Physical Activities Coalition presents the second annual
Central Vermont Move Through Winter Series, fun weekend outdoor events for the entire family.
All events are free and open to all abilities. This series is supported by Community Connections, Onion River Sports, the Cross Vermont Trail Association and Morse Farm.
Note- the January 7th Moonlight snowshoe has been postponed until Feb 4th. Details below.
• Friday, January 20 - ORS Snowshoe Romp in Hubbard Park - Meet the folks from Onion River Sports and Onion River Kids at the Old Shelter in Hubbard Park and strap on snowshoes for an evening romp a lantern–lit trail winding through the park woods and fields, then enjoy hot chocolate and a warm fire with us back at the shelter. We will have snowshoes to demo, or bring your own.
• Saturday January 21- Calais Elementary School Snowfest- An afternoon of family fun in the snow! Activities will include cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, outdoor games, and if the snow is right, a snow sculpture contest. Full cross country ski sets, including boots, poles and skis will be available for loan on a first-come first-serve basis for 2nd graders and up, or bring your own equipment. Snowshoes will also be provided. There will be a warming space inside school and warm beverages served. Sponsored by Community Connections. • Saturday evening, Feb 4 - Moonlight Snowshoe and Ski at Morse Farm- Led by Onion River Sports and Onion River Nordic Club. Bring your own equipment, headlamp, and warm clothes and meet outside of the ski shop in the lower parking lot at Morse Farm. Time TBD. Celebrate National Winter Trails Day! • Saturday, February 11 - Cross Vermont Trail Association Snowshoe Rally at U32, 11:00 am - 2:00pm. Free event for all abilities includes snowshoe lessons, fun snowshoe relays, exploring the U-32 woods on a self-guided trail, plus guided naturalist outings. Warming space, snacks & warm beverages will be served. Free snowshoes provided. Sponsored by the Cross Vermont Trail Association, Community Connections and U-32 athletics.
• Friday, March 30th -Montpelier High School Family Fun & Fitness Night, 6:00 -8:00pm. Beat Cabin Fever, Come play at school! Event will featuring a variety of recreation and fitness activities for all ages and abilities. Students who are under 15 must have an adult present. Activities will include: Family volleyball, badminton, basketball, ping pong, group exercise, circus arts and more. Sponsored by MHS and Community Connections.

China Exchange!
For two weeks this past summer the Montpelier & U-32 communities hosted a group of 30 high school students from China. These students were housed in pairs with local families, and participated in educational, cultural and recreational programming along with a select group of our local students. From Monday – Friday of each week, this mix of students met for spoken English language sessions in the morning, and in the afternoons traveled around the area, sampling the best of Vermont. Here are two ways that local community members may get involved in this exciting exchange project:

4th Annual Classroom Cup

U-32 High School, East Montpelier
Wellness, community & FUN were celebrated at the 4th annual Classroom Cup trail-walking event! About fifty people walked on the U-32 cross-country trails. Eleven teams that ranged from ages 3 to 75 collectively walked 88 miles. “The primary goal is to get everyone out for a walk on the beautiful U-32 cross country trails,” said Coordinator Bill Merrylees. Special thanks to Mark Chaplin and the U-32 track team. |
