The Classroom Cup
a family event
May 31, 2006

Skip gets participants ready for the second annual PEP Classroom Cup at U-32 High School May 31. Over 60 kids and adults teamed up for the fun-raising trail-walking event designed to promote fun family fitness, sponsored by Community Connections and Central Vermont Medical Center. They walked or ran over 100 miles on the beautiful U-32 cross-country trails. The fun continued after the walk with prizes given for silliest walk, costumes and just plain participating.   The "Hockey Chics" had a lot of fun at the Classroom Cup!

On March 6, 2006, 18 fourth through eighth graders discovered skate skiing at the Cross Country Ski Step-Up Day at Montpelier High School sponsored by the Community Connections PEP Program. Yes, the snow held out for the exciting day led by U-32 ski team members and coaches. Kids met the athletes, coaches and other ski enthusiasts, and got to try out new gear and new moves on skis! They played “ultimate blue monster ball,” “flat-land slalom” and other high-energy ski games, and learned new skills including how to ski on one foot!

U-32 cross country ski team coaches Mark Chaplin and Kathy Topping, who hosted the clinic, gave great tips and new techniques while sharing their love of the sport. U-32 cross country team members took an entire day out of their vacation to coach and mentor the younger kids. There is no better way for the younger kids to learn about the camaraderie of being on a team! The spirit of the day was all about having fun on skis, and what a glorious sunny day they had!
