| High school 'seniors?' EAST MONTPELIER - Dozens of senior citizens from around central Vermont went back to high school on April 1. No fooling! The folks over at Community Connections arranged for nearly 90 seniors (citizens not students) to spend the day at U-32 Junior-Senior High School. The visitors were greeted by 30 students (some of them seniors) and treated to a turkey lunch followed by a matinee performance of "Kiss Me, Kate." It was service with a smile for the students, whose efforts were well-received by their gracious guests, including some who needed help with their wheelchairs. "These young students are so helpful and attentive," one of the visitors commented. "They give us such great service." We're told the performance of "Kiss Me, Kate" was equally well received, said Community Connections Coordinator Erin Keefe. "The performance was phenomenal," Keefe says. "I was amazed by the huge talent within the school." So were many of the guests - some of whom had heard good things about the drama department at U-32 but had never been to one of the school's productions. "We should do this more often," one appreciative guest exclaimed after the show was over. Given the success of last week's collaboration between U-32 and Community Connections we suspect an encore is a very strong possibility. from "Talk of the Town", Times Argus, April 7, 2004 |
